My original design was a flared tunic with long flared sleeves; the piece of muslin being used to drape the pattern ended just below my elbow, and I decided I liked it that way. I don't like clothes that just hang, and since it had to be a pullover and I couldn't make my tunic fitted, I added seams so that I could insert loops for lacing. The colors, the lacing, and the longer-in-back uneven hem gives this a fantasy novel pixie look that really has no relevance in the real world, but it is a fun top.

While I was working on this, I either saw it as a stroke of genius or the worst idea I'd had in a very long time, depending on how it was going. After weaving a set of fabric samples in a weaving class and mentally labling several of them as suiting fabrics, I thought it would be neat to weave myself enough fabric to make myself a suit. At the same time, my pattern draping class was offered the option of draping and making an outfit including a jacket for our final project. I decided to kill two birds with one stone and use one outfit as the final projects for two classes.

The brilliant side of this was that if I was successful, I would save myself work, and have an outfit that I could wear and say "I made this. No, I made this." The bad idea aspect was that at each step, I knew that if I screwed up, there were two grades on the line, and there wouldn't be time to go back and do two separate projects.
