Crown Tourney Feast Menu:

We can’t list the menu for Crown Tourney feast because it’s a secret! Why? Because the feast is not only a yummy, hearty meal fresh from the kitchen of Mistress Gwyneth—it’s also your chance to test your knowledge of SCA period cooking and (if you choose) to enter a contest.

The theme of the feast is “Tasty, yes, but is it period?” The menu will include a mixture of foods from different countries and times. Some are documentably period, some are not period, and some may be questionable/borderline.

The contest is to see if you can tell which of those three categories each dish falls under. For the purpose of this contest, “documentably period” means that there is pictorial and/or written evidence that the food in question was eaten at least semi-regularly by people in Europe sometime between 600 and the early 17th century (Gwyneth reserves the right to cheat a bit past 1600 to cover some late renaissance recipes). The written evidence could be actual recipes, descriptions of dinners or bills of fare, pricing regulations for the foodstuffs at market, etc.

Contest entry cards will be provided at the tables. A winner will be drawn at random from among the entries with the most correct answers, and will receive a prize provided by Mistress Vasilla.
