Cattle Raids- 101 Days of Games- September 2002
On Sept. 6-8, 2002, Mag Mor hosted a fabulous event in the Roman theme. There was much wagering, frolicking, feasting, and downright fun to be had by one and all. Murdoch autocrated this event and Mistress Tatjana Nikonovna prepared the feast. We happily hosted Their Majesties, Ariel and Martino. We had not one, but two vigils (Mistress Maerwynn of Holme and Sir Aleksander) and witnessed a Russian knighting ceremony. What great fun to have so many of our friends come and enjoy the wonderful weather and beautiful site that is the Stone Barn.
During the evening, a torch light tourney was held. The tournament was started with a processional that featured the throwing of flower petals, the marching of Mikhail and Vasilla and entourage, and a surprise song from the populace (see lyrics below). The "gladiators" were auctioned to the highest bidders as a kingdom fundraiser. The winners of the bids received bragging and betting rights for the tournament. The bidder who won the most was Lady Leofwyna who won the torch light tournament and received 2 beautiful fox pelts thanks to the heroic efforts of her gladiator, Graf Luther.
Song Lyrics to the Gladitorial Processional:
A commando unit of singers, organized by (who else) Natalya sung the following song: (To the tune of "Prince Ali" from Disney's "Aladdin." )
"Make Way! Make Way!
Make Way for Mikhail & Vasilla, rulers of Mag Mor!
Tall of hat, how about that, Rus to the core.
His name's too long to be said, She wears a satellite dish on her head.
They're turning us all Russian red
Here in Mag Mor!
Make Way! Make Way!
Baron Mikhail, he makes us smile, he is a dandy!
So we bow and say "Your Excellency."
We keep him away from the tools, 'Cause the populace, we are no fools.
We all think he's pretty cool
Here in Mag Mor!
Make Way! Make Way!
Vasilla is the baroness of Mag Mor
She is wise, brave and strong and so much more!
She throws a pretty mean pot
T hat always hits on the spot
WE all like her quite a lot
Here in Mag Mor!
Make Way! Make Way! Mag Mor!
