Traveling Bag and contents

The bag is sewn from deerskin and has a woolen, woven strap and trim.

Currently carried in the bag is my eating knife, horn spoon, bowl, a pair of antler dice and my fire-starting kit.

Canteen

Seen above is a hardened leather canteen with rope handle. It is lined with beeswax and stoppered with a lathe turned piece of ash.

Fire-starting Kit

This contains flint, steel, charcloth, and a hunk of linen tow for tinder.

Rations Bag and contents

This bag is sewn from a coarse linen canvas and used a card-woven woolen strap. It is closed with a simple pennanular brooch.
It is made from canvas as opposed to leather, to allow for washing, since it contains foodstuffs.

This ensemble supposes a light traveling bag, possibly for only a day or so. Taken in later winter, foods shown are primarily dried or preserved. Seasonal foods would be added as appropriate.

Shown are some of the foodstuffs carried.

The food bags are made from linen or leather. Drawstrings are made from trollen braid.
