Nels' Leprechaun Trap - 2007

St. Patricks Day, my son Nels has decided that he would like to build a "Leprechaun Trap". With the ensuing fortune that is bound to come his way with such a clever plan, we will be able "to buy lots of toys!"

First comes the planning stage. This particular design included being attached to a light switch!
A number of plans were designed and consulted. After great consideration and some direction, a plan was chosen!

Note the clever signs! Free Gold!
Leprechauns welcome!
The final design includes a "trap door" made from buckram.
The interior of the trap. Note the foothold and the "gold" being used for bait!

Follow-up

Early next morning, I was awoken with the sound of excited screaming....We got one! We got one! Hurrying downstairs, we could see much gold glitter around the box and the trap door had been sprung. Grabbing the box, I excitedly opened it and Nels was ready to pounce to grab the leprechaun and secure his fortunes.

It seems however that he got away..... Examining the inside of the trap, we could see much gold dust (glitter) with tiny footprints inside. Also, the leprechaun left 2 gold coins in his haste to escape! It appears that Papa's knot tying left something to be desired, and that was the cause of the escape!

Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the "sprung" trap, but it was great fun for a weekend!
